Pioneering African American Legal Excellence Across Texas

From the bustling streets of Houston and Dallas to the vibrant communities of San Antonio, Fort Worth, Austin, and El Paso, the African American Lawyers Section (AALS) has been championing the rights and professional growth of black attorneys since 1992. As the leading association for African American attorneys in Texas, we are dedicated to creating a legacy that not only reverberates across state lines but also resonates nationally.

A Proud Legacy: Over Three Decades of Legal Excellence

Since our inception in 1992, the African American Lawyers Section (AALS) has been a beacon of empowerment and collaboration for African American attorneys in Texas and beyond. Established to address the unique challenges faced by black lawyers, our mission has consistently emphasized justice, racial equity, and civil rights. Rooted deeply in cities like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Fort Worth, AALS has grown to become a national nexus, championing the cause of equity in the legal arena. Beyond mere representation, we've advocated for systemic change, making AALS a trusted name for individuals and entities seeking the best black attorneys. As today unfolds, our legacy stands as a testament to dedication, unity, and the pursuit of legal excellence.

Artessia "Tess" House

Welcome from Our Chair!

Hey Champions of Progress,

If you pause for a moment and consider it, while our names were bestowed upon us by our parents, it's us, and us alone, who hold the power to give depth, substance, and a stirring narrative to those names. I'm no different. Some know me as Artessia K. House, but you can call me Tess. As we start an exciting new chapter, I am humbled and exhilarated to be your Chair for the African American Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Texas.

This year, we rally around the theme "Beyond Survival: Thriving in Law." We aim to shatter the mold, redefine norms, and ensure our impact on the legal landscape stands strong, echoing our unyielding strength, leadership, and brilliance.

From Texas's rural landscapes to its bustling urban centers, we're fostering more robust minority bars, broadening access to resources, and nurturing a platform ripe for intellectual growth.

I didn't embark on this journey out of obligation; instead, there was a magnetic pull toward our compelling mission. Now, I invite you all to join me. Step forward not out of duty but as key players in a remarkable surge of legal excellence.

As we launch into this year, we are not just participants but authors in the grand narrative of legal progress. We celebrate our identities as the rich tapestry that makes us unique yet binds us together. We are embarking on a mission to propel our collective story to untapped heights, leaving no stone unturned and no voice unheard.

United in purpose and relentless pursuit, we commit to ensuring our community exists and truly shines. So, here's to us - charting the course, setting the pace, and lighting up the path for those who follow. It's our time to make an indelible mark. Let's embrace it together.

In Unity and Service,

Tess House, Your Chair, your ally, your partner in progress
